The left-wing activist group Antifa has claimed responsibility for an arson attack which destroyed an historic German castle.
A group spokesperson wrote on the online forum Indymedia that Antifa had destroyed the castle as a “stern warning” to its owner, Gloria Prinzessin von Thurn und Taxis.
Princess Gloria is a highly visible German businesswoman and conservative activist.
“The princess represents the most reactionary elements of the ruling class. She belongs to that section of the bourgeoisie that promotes the resurgence of fascism in Germany and throughout the world,” a forum user posting as Kommando Georg Elser wrote in an October 9 Indymedia post.
Indymedia is an online forum which serves as a mouthpiece for various groups associated with Antifa.
A spokesperson for Bavarian police said investigators were examining the social media post, but said the investigation would continue in all directions.

The Indymedia post went on to criticise the Bavarian princess for meeting with US Republican strategist Steve Bannon in Rome, and for welcoming prominent representatives of European right-wing parties to her Regensburg residence Schloss Emmeran.
“Thurn und Taxis’ sympathy for the new fascist movement is also evident from the guest list at Emmeram Castle: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, right-wing conservative US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, and AfD politicians Maximilian Krah and Alice Weidel have all been guests at Gloria’s castle festival. Former President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution Hans-Georg Maaßen hosted a fundraising dinner at St Emmeram in 2023,” says the post.
The social media post concludes on an ominous note: “The above points are more than enough reasons for us to send Gloria a clear warning: if you don’t stop your inhumane hate speech, next time it won’t just be your golf club that burns down.”
The Jagdschloss (hunting castle) Thiergarten near the southern German city of Regensburg was completely destroyed by fire on the night of October 6.
That building dated to the 1880s and was poised to be added to the list of historical monuments of the State of Bavaria.
The Gold and Land Club Regensburg, a country club domiciled in the castle, called its destruction an “historic loss”.
Princess Gloria is the current head of the House of Thurn und Taxis, a German noble family which rose to fame and great wealth in the sixteenth century when it was Europe’s main provider of postal services.
She is a well-known activist for traditional Catholic and Conservative causes.
In Brussels, the family name has left its mark in the form of the Tour & Taxis building complex in the city centre.
The Thurn und Taxis family owned the surrounding lands in the seventeenth century and gave its name to a small road running through the area – which later provided the name for the entire complex.
