If elected for a a second term, Donald Trump will work with Polish President Andrzej Duda and the Conservatives (PiS) to ensure Poland has a conservative President and government, says Trump advisor Corey Lewandowski.

If Trump wins November’s presidential election he will help the PiS, Lewandowski told Polish state radio July 17.

The aide also expects Poland’s next presidential election, due next spring, will be won by someone close to President Andrzej Duda, who was elected in 2015 as the PiS candidate.

“Poland has elections in 2025, and I think that when Donald Trump wins here in the USA, then someone like President Duda will be successful in Poland”, said Lewandowski.

Duda and Trump were allies and Duda’s political supporters can count on Trump’s support, Lewandowski added.

Duda and the former US president met at Trump Tower in New York this year, and held a dinner meeting which lasted two hours, Lewandowski recalled.

“When Trump wins I am certain that serious talks will be held on how to keep Poland in the right hands”, Lewandowski said.

During his first term as President Trump nominated a close associate, Georgette Mosbacher, as ambassador to Poland.

Trump would nominate another close confidante to that position and did not rule out that Mosbacher would return to Warsaw, Lewandowski.

In his first term, Trump had a good relationship with Poland’s then-Conservative government.

He praised the PiS government of PM Mateusz Morawiecki for its efforts at removing the country’s dependence on Russia for gas and oil, and for meeting NATO’s defence spending target of 2 per cent of GDP.

The Trump administration also backed Poland’s Three Seas initiative.

This was a diplomatic and economic initiative of countries located between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas in Central and Eastern Europe, aiming to strengthen development in the EU’s east and south.

Trump’s administration also removed visa requirements for Poles traveling to the United States, and increased the number of US troops in Poland. It also increased US LNG exports to Poland, and signed a cooperation agreement over US participation in Poland’s nuclear power programme.

Ambassador Mosbacher was a highly visible diplomat in her time in Warsaw.

While supportive of the PiS government in its disputes with Brussels over the rule of law, migration and climate policy, she was prepared to criticise it over its move against US-owned commercial broadcaster TVN.

She also once said PiS was “on the wrong side of history” in its opposition to LGBT rights.

Poland’s Conservatives appear highly hopeful that Donald Trump will be elected for a second term in November, despite some differences over the war in Ukraine. The PiS has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine.

The PiS in particular hopes a new Trump administration would follow up on Ohio senator and vice-presidential nominee JD Vance’s criticism of what they see as the Tusk government’s takeover of Polish public media.

The party also hopes Trump would put pressure on Warsaw to cease what it views as political persecution of former PiS officials.
