There is still a lot of speculation about the wannabe assassin of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. While some outlets claim that the prime suspect is a member of Antifa, others claim that he is a registered Republican disgruntled with Donald Trump’s weak stance on abortion and pro-life issues.
Both could be false, but either way, Trump was inches from losing his life, and is now inches from regaining the presidency. Because it was not the assassination attempt itself that produced the most impressive pictures, but Trump’s reaction to it. After being grazed by bullet and swarmed by Secret Service Agents, the former President demanded “Let me get my shoes” before raising his fist and yelling, “Fight, fight” with the crowd – which itself was under fire just seconds before – erupting into chants of “USA, USA.”
These are incredibly powerful pictures, and they show a Donald Trump defiant in the face of death. Whatever one thinks of the man, depicting him as a coward only out for his own benefit will no longer work. He is now joining the ranks of Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, who also survived attempts at their lives.
It does not even matter who the actual perpetrator was. If it was a left-wing radical, the Republicans can justifiably claim that the heated rhetoric from the left, saying that Trump is orange Hitler who will end American democracy was the inspiration for this violent act. It certainly did not help that Joe Biden said just a few days ago, “We’re done talking about the debate. It’s time to put Trump in the bullseye.”
Even worse, apparently the Department of Homeland Security rejected requests to increase protection for the former President, and security measured taken allowed the shooter to come within inches of killing Donald Trump. It should also not be forgotten that Democrat members of Congress wanted to remove Trump’s Secret Service detail on the grounds that as a convicted felon he is no longer entitled to it.
If, on the other hand, it should turn out to be a disgruntled pro-lifer, it will become all but impossible to paint Trump as an anti-abortion radical, something Democrats have been counting on in their strategy against Donald Trump. Whether is was a left wing loon or a right wing radical that shoot at Trump, he will appear as a man of the middle, making a vote for him a vote against extremism.
It is too soon to say whether what happened has decided the outcome of the presidential race, but it is now more unlikely than ever that Joe Biden will be replaced on the Democratic ticket. Unless he is forced to resign for health reasons, no Democrat will want to replace him in a race that looks all but lost.
Somebody else who lost all semblance of sanity was the mainstream media, which continues its descent into oblivion. After running idiotic headlines like the following by Robert Kagan in the Washington Post, one should not be too surprised about what happened: “With each passing day, it will become harder and more dangerous to stop it by any means, legal or illegal.” The same is true for the Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson, an ardent anti-Trump organization: “They’re still going to have to go out and put a bullet in Donald Trump.”
Yet even after the actual assassination attempt, the stupidity did not stop. CNN wrote that “Secret Service rushes Trump off stage after he falls at rally” which is like saying “Abraham Lincoln fell really hard while watching a play.” The sheer desperation with which the legacy media tried to avoid the word “assassination attempt” was only topped by CNN’s Jamie Gangel who complained that Trump’s rhetoric was not “tamping it down.” There are numerous other examples that try to downplay the events or somehow want to shift blame to Trump as having brought this upon himself.
This will be remembered as a pivotal moment in American history, and one that potentially predetermined the outcome of a presidential race.
