Trump’s victory should especially be a wakeup call to those forces in the European and Ibero-American centre-right.

The victory of Donald Trump has marked a turning point in American politics, one that will profoundly impact the West and the entire world. It is a shift aimed at reclaiming the foundational values of our civilisation, marked by a new political vision that serves our societies contrary to what the US managerial and political elite has done for decades, who have turned their backs on their countries and countrymen.

To capture this pivotal moment, the Heritage Foundation, alongside several international allies with whom it launched last year the Carvalho Dialogue, has issued the following declaration:

The election of President Donald Trump is a statement from the American people reaffirming their commitment to core values that deeply resonate within our communities across the Western Hemisphere and the Transatlantic World—the protection of life, freedom, property, and national sovereignty. We see this victory as a renewal of liberty, indicating a positive direction for both the United States and its friends and allies in Latin America—delivering hope and the prospects for a better life for all our peoples.

In 2023, friends and allies from across the United States, Canada, and the Iberosphere who share a commitment to advancing freedom, sovereignty, security, and prosperity released the Miami Statement, addressing the main common challenges to liberty and public safety in the Western Hemisphere. We unite our efforts as we fight a mendacious strategy and message that hides behind sexual, racial and climate rhetoric to suppress free speech, and silence political opposition. For four years, we felt our cause was abandoned by the present regime in Washington, D.C. We believe that now that will change.

For many in our community, the outcome of this election reinforces a shared desire to preserve family, faith, and freedom in the face of policies that have historically eroded the moral foundations, prosperity, and independence of societies. We believe this shift in leadership will help strengthen the United States’ position as a global beacon of freedom. As defenders of these principles, we are encouraged to see a government committed to values of sovereignty, free enterprise, rule of law, and the preservation of national identity.

Trump’s victory should especially be a wakeup call to those forces in the European and Ibero-American centre-right that harbour the illusion they can just be better stewards of big government and seek to accommodate and institutionalise the cultural transformation the Left has already achieved and seeks to expand. Trump’s victory has revitalised the sector of conservatives in politics that understands that there is no compromise with the Left’s cultural onslaught. Conservatives who think they can sue for peace and join the centre-left should absorb the lessons history has just handed down. We respectfully reject their views, which we believe do not reflect the majority sentiment among conservatives. Rather we affirm our strong support for American leadership and the vision Trump represents for both America and the broader Western world.

President Trump’s leadership is grounded in shared Western values of freedom, national sovereignty, reciprocity, burden sharing, the just rule of law, and moral responsibility. His commitment to these principles has inspired millions, not only in the United States but across the globe. His economic policies—marked by tax reductions, tariffs, deregulation, and a focus on job creation—have revitalized the American economy and demonstrated the effectiveness of a government that respects individual enterprise and entrepreneurial innovation. His dedication to strengthening national security, upholding immigration security, and appointing constitutionalist judges reflects a deep respect for the sovereignty of the nation-state and the rule of law, values that resonate profoundly within conservative philosophy. His leadership has protected the constitutional principles that are foundational to a free society. America will lead in making us all great again.

We would urge the United States to:

  • Lead in combatting illegal mass migration.
  • Reject and condemn the Foro de São Paulo, the Bolivarian Alliance of the Americas, and the Grupo de Puebla agenda, exposing the Marxist-Leninist ideology at the root of the progressive international programme and those who advance it.
  • Promote entrepreneurship; and the private sector; and economic partnerships that build more resilient, prosperous economies that respect the rule of law, are resilient against corruption, and resist malicious foreign influence—and deliver prosperity to people.
  • Press for responsible energy and environmental actions, recognizing the vital importance of energy security, and reliable, affordable, abundant energy; eschewing orthodoxy on climate change policies. Support the Geneva Consensus Declaration. We recognize, too, that our shared heritage is deeply rooted in Judeo-Christian values that uphold the sanctity of human life, the family, and the community. President Trump’s unwavering support for pro-life principles and his commitment to protecting individual freedoms exemplify the values that have sustained Western civilization for centuries.
  • Commit to protecting fundamental human rights while opposing the creation of new “rights” awarded based on membership in particular groups, including those based on gender ideology. Emphasise the importance of respecting the sovereignty of countries in these matters and reject any efforts to insert gender ideology and sexual activism into foreign policy, bilateral relations, or negotiated international treaties.

On the global stage, President Trump has reasserted America’s role as a leader in defending Western culture, heritage, and ideals. His efforts to advance national security, strengthen national borders, and encourage a robust judiciary have inspired other nations to reaffirm their traditions and values, creating a ripple effect that strengthens the Western world. As we look to the future, we invite all who share in this vision to join us in supporting President Trump. We stand with him, confident that America—and the entire Western world—can build a future rooted in liberty, life, sovereignty, and moral responsibility, paving the way toward a freer tomorrow. The future looks bright.
