A 55-year-old neo-Nazi from Thuringia has been allowed to change his legal gender entry and first name to Adolfa under Germany’s Self-Determination Act.
Formerly known as André B., the man from the Apolda area completed the official name and gender change in 2025, Bild reported.
He appeared last week at Erfurt regional court with a Hitler-style moustache and his hair combed in the style of his idol to face charges over forbidden swastika tattoos on his hand.
Adolfa also dones an eagle tattoo with the lettering “Mein Kampf geht weiter” (My fight continues) on the back of his head.
In court, he wore a T-shirt with an eagle in the style of his preferred time period and a text referring to the Swastika. He also wore an Iron Cross.
During the proceedings he flipped his middle finger to the prosecutor and to journalists. He also demanded to be addressed as a woman.
He was convicted of using signs of unconstitutional and terrorist organisations. The court confirmed a €1,200 fine for his forbidden neo-Nazi tattoos.
Adofla did not accept the verdict and appealed.
He previously has been in prison for various crimes such as dangerous bodily harm, theft and driving without a license
The case has drawn attention because the name change was processed under the same self-identification rules that allow adults to alter their gender marker and forenames with minimal bureaucratic hurdles.
The move follows a similar high-profile case involving Marla-Svenja Liebich (formerly Sven Liebich), a well-known neo-Nazi activist from Saxony-Anhalt.
In early 2025, Liebich also used the Self-Determination Act to change gender entry to female and adopt the new name, a step widely criticised as a provocation aimed at exploiting the law ahead of a prison sentence.
It appears the extreme-right scene is now having fun exploiting the controversial law in it’s encounters with German justice.
