An explosion hit a facility of Czech defence group STV on Tuesday, officials said, with police saying the blast was likely caused by a technical defect in a production system.

One person was injured in the incident.

STV said the blast occurred in one of its operational buildings at a complex of its engineering company Policske strojirny, located 150 km east of Prague.

News agency CTK and other media said the blast occurred in an ammunition warehouse at the complex, where STV leases space and produces large-calibre ammunition and also repairs military equipment.

“This morning, an extraordinary event occurred on our premises, which we take with all seriousness,” STV chairman David Hac said.

“All necessary measures were taken immediately after the incident.”
