Kosovo’s parliament was suspended on Saturday after an opposition lawmaker threw eggs at caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti, deepening a political deadlock that has already produced three elections in under two years and now risks another snap vote.
During a plenary session on August 8, Time Kadrijaj, an MP from the conservative Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), pulled eggs from her bag and hurled them at Kurti, who was seated in the front row.
She shouted “Shame on you!” as the projectiles landed. Security personnel and other lawmakers intervened, the live broadcast was cut, and the session was suspended.
The incident occurred after Kurti, leader of the left-wing Vetëvendosje (VV) party, told the assembly he needed more time to negotiate with other parties before proposing a candidate for speaker of parliament.
A constitutional deadline to constitute the new legislature, following the June 7 snap election, had expired the previous day.

Kurti, whose party emerged as the largest force in June but lacks the two-thirds majority needed to elect a president, appeared unshaken.
He later said that if being pelted with eggs was the price of continuing dialogue, “I am happy to pay this price.” He noted that opposition leaders had declined meetings aimed at agreeing a presidential candidate.
Kosovo has been mired in institutional paralysis for nearly two years. VV secured a majority with ethnic minority support after earlier votes, but repeated failures to elect a president have forced successive elections.
The latest crisis centres on both the speakership and the presidency. Rival MPs have threatened legal challenges over the request for more time.
Vetëvendosje itself has a history of disruptive tactics in opposition, including the use of tear gas in the chamber in 2015 and 2018. A previous Kosovo prime minister, Isa Mustafa, was also egged in parliament in 2015.
