1 minute read

A French high-speed train struck a lorry in a military convoy, killing the train driver and leaving 27 people injured.

It was the second time in a week that a French army convoy became stuck at a level rail crossing.

The driver of the TGV train died in the accident this morning in the Hauts-de-France region, confirmed Fabien Villedieu, secretary general of the SUD-Rail union for high-speed train conductors.

“Several passengers were also injured, but their injuries do not appear to be serious,” he added.

Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said he would visit the scene, with Jean Castex, a former French prime minister who is now CEO of SNCF, France’s state-owned railway operator.

The train, carrying around 350 passengers, is believed to have derailed after the collision.

Services on the line are suspended until the end of the day, SNCF said on X, but neither it nor authorities have yet provided more details about the accident.
