A left-wing Spanish MP has been revealed to have mocked the death of Pope Francis and joked about sending weapons to terrorist group Hamas in internal party chats. The messages, have emerged weeks before the snap general election on November 29 in which she is standing.
Tesh Sidi, a Sahrawi-born MP for Más Madrid who sits in the Sumar parliamentary group, is number two on the Frente Amplio (Broad Front) list for Madrid. The left-wing coalition, which brings together Más Madrid, Movimiento Sumar, United Left (IU) and Catalonia in Common (Comuns), is led by former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau.
According to La Razón, Sidi wrote in April 2025 that Muslims celebrated death, followed by a burst of laughter, shortly after the Pope died. The comment was posted in a Telegram channel of the Sumar parliamentary group with 74 members, where politicians were debating the Spanish Government’s decision to declare three days of official mourning.
Another participant had questioned why a non-denominational state should mourn the head of a church. One colleague replied to Sidi’s message with three question marks.
In a separate message dated October 8, 2025, the day after the second anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel, Sidi asked when they could request weapons for Hamas. She wrote it while coordinating with aides how to publicise the Congress of Deputies’ validation of a Government decree restricting the arms trade with Israel, the newspapers reported.
The decree was part of a package of measures against Israel over the war in Gaza that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced in September 2025. Sidi had already drawn criticism in October 2023 for an initial post on the Hamas attacks that did not explicitly condemn the group, though she publicly condemned them two days later.
The revelations followed internal complaints by three former advisers, who accused Sidi of abusive, hostile and humiliating behaviour while they worked for her in Congress. They filed a joint complaint with Más Madrid’s ethics committee on October 20, the day she was named the coalition’s number two in Madrid, and also took their case to Sumar’s internal bodies.
The complainants cited personal belittling, contradictory instructions and working days beyond the legal limit, according to La Razón. They said they had raised their concerns with four Más Madrid officials between June and October 2025 without any disciplinary action being taken.
Más Madrid sources denied the allegations and described the complaint as a vendetta timed for the election campaign, the newspaper reported. At the time of publication, neither Sidi nor the parties involved had offered any public explanation of the chat messages.
