Asylum seeker suspected of rape of 13-year-old Dutch girl suggested marriage ‘to make amends’

The girl’s mother confronted him directly during the hearing, asking why he had done this to her daughter and damaged their lives instead of seeking help for his own problems.

A 29-year-old asylum seeker living in Alkmaar is facing prosecution for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old Dutch girl. During court proceedings the man reportedly suggested marrying his victim as a way to resolve the matter.

The suspect, identified as T.N., is accused of attacking the girl last year.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the vulnerable 13-year-old had run away from home and was looking for a place to sleep when she came into contact with the man near the Bolwerk area.

Prosecutors described it as “a very serious sexual offence” and are demanding a four-year prison sentence.

DNA evidence, including sperm matching the suspect, has been found.

In court, T.N. gave a remarkable explanation for the DNA, claiming it could have come from the girl touching his finger. He reportedly questioned why the court would believe a 13-year-old, claiming she did not know anything and didn’t understand sex.

At the end of the hearing, the defendant said he was sorry. “If I can make amends, I want to do so. I do want to marry her,” he said.

The girl’s mother confronted him directly during the hearing, asking why he had done this to her daughter and damaged their lives instead of seeking help for his own problems.

The victim is demanding €12,000 in compensation and has reportedly suffered a psychosis as a result of the alleged assault, for which she needs medication.

The court has ordered comprehensive psychological and psychiatric evaluations of the suspect, with the next pro forma hearing scheduled for December.

Local councillors have called for an emergency debate, centring not only on the alleged crime itself but also on the role and management of the city’s asylum centre.

There are highly critical for the fact that the council only learned about the case through the media rather than from the mayor. They want clarity on what the local authorities knew, when they knew it, and why the information was not shared earlier.

Questions are being raised about supervision of residents, integration standards, and the safety of young people in the area.

This is not the first time such incidents have exposed tensions in Dutch cities.

Repeated cases involving asylum seekers and vulnerable minors have fuelled criticism that current policies prioritise accommodation over rigorous screening, integration requirements, and the protection of Dutch children in their own neighbourhoods.
